01. (A) Area: 2138.6 acres or 85.52 sq. Km (B) Boundary: Kalia upazila of Narail district and Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore in the north, Khulna district in the east. Rupsa and Terkhada upazilas, Dumuria upazila on the west, Bhairab river and metro area on the south.
(C) Latitude and longitude: 22 ● 50 'and 22 ● 51' north latitude and 89 ● 33 'and 89 ● 40' east longitude.
2. Information regarding the naming of the upazila No documentary evidence was found about the naming of Dighalia upazila. However, the rumors about naming in the area are as follows: The lands of Senhati, Barakpur, Dighalia Union of Dighalia Upazila are mainly formed by silt of Bhairab river. At one time the people of this region were called "Nemi" (name). This char area was long or long. For this reason the area has been named Dighalia. Some say the land here was surrounded by long “al”. The name "Dighalia" is derived from the long Al "Digh Al" and with the suffix "Ay".
03. Brief history of the upazila Dighalia emerged as an independent upazila on 12 January 1986. Earlier, on July 3, 1986, Dighalia was known as a police station. However, Daulatpur Thana was included till its inception as Dighalia Thana.
Dighalia Upazila was the birthplace of some politicians who were known throughout undivided India. Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Prafulla Chandra Sen was born in Senhati Union of Dighalia. He was the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1982 to 1986.
Rashiklal Das (1899-197), Ratikant Das, Anujacharan Sen, Atul Sen, Dwiraj Bhatracharya, Rabin Sen, Shashadhar Acharya, Deben Ganguly and Suklal Mitra were born in Senhati. Besides, politician Dr. Naresh Banerjee was born in Chandanimahal village.
Popular Bengali poet Krishnachandra Majumder (1834-1906), playwright Sachindra Nath Sengupta and Mankumari Bose were born in Senhati Union of the upazila.
Besides, eminent athletes Khan Zahurul Haque and Milzar Hossain, eminent social worker and educationist MA Majid are the children of this upazila.
Pir Khanjahan Ali (RA) built roads and dug ponds thinking of the people of the area while passing through this town. Khanjahan Ali Seemananda Dighi of Panigati village still bears his memory. There is also a huge lake to the north of Senhati village.
The name of the place where Pir Khanjahan Ali (R) sat down and issued orders in this town while going to Bagerhat is called Farmayesh Khana. At present this village is known as Farmaishkhana. On the other hand, the place where he left his barracks or tent and stayed for some time is called Barakpur.
During the war of liberation no terrible battle took place in Dighalia. In 1971 the freedom fighters of this upazila went to different places and fought with the Pakhanadars.
Senhati Secondary School, the oldest educational institution in Dighalia Upazila, was established in 18th century with the help of a person named Srinath / educationist. In 1986, Kumud Bandhu Das, a student of this school, won the first place in the merit list in the entrance examination under Calcutta University and he got the highest marks among the four provinces of Bengal, Bihar, Orissa and Assam in undivided India.
Dighalia upazila in Khulna district is a town rich in history and heritage. As this town is carrying tradition in terms of antiquity, this upazila is also climbing the ladder of progress in terms of modernity.
